There was a record attendance of 188, including 32 widows, to honor the memory of the 69 deceased Sir Knights and 44 Brother Knights. Special guests besides Bishop Taylor included State Deputy Charles Ketter, Arkansas District Master Max Nutt and wife, Juanita, and Church Director Roy Anderle with his wife, Cathy.
Grand Knight Dave Johnston was the Master of Ceremonies of a program following the banquet. In addition to thanking everyone in attendance and recognizing those responsible for the evening's success, he presented the October Knight of the Month Award to Ed Miller and Family of the Month to Milt and Janice Spaniel. The State Deputy and the District Master also presented awards - the 2010-2011 Star Council Award to Past Grand Knight Bill Welch for Council 10208 and the 2010-2011 Civic Award to Assembly 2316, represented by Ed Miller for Past Faithful Navigator Jerry Bertrand.
The Knights will again be offering their PETIT JEAN products this year with the proceeds going to support local families in need at Christmas. Many knights and other parishioners purchase items in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas not only for themselves, but also for family and friends.
Available products include a variety of ham and bacon options, smoked turkey breast, and sampler boxes. All items can be picked up at church or shipped directly to the recipient. Sales at Sacred Heart of Jesus Masses will continue until December 17/18. However, you may contact the following knights at any time with questions or to place an order: Bill Welch (922-6345); Mike Welsh (915-8344); and, Bill Hartnett (922-6922). Thanks to the efforts of 135 knights (and some spouses) coordinated by Community Director Milt Spaniel and co-chairs Phil Carl and John Bodensteiner, the campaign went well. The average collected per knight was $49.48 on Friday, $48.89 on Saturday, and $57.50 on Sunday (at Sacred Heart).
After expenses (not yet available), the net proceeds should be about $10,250. Most of the money (85%) will be given to four designated beneficiaries of the local council, including First Step School and Abilities Unlimited in Hot Springs, Special Olympics of Arkansas, and National Camps for the Blind. The rest will go to The Arc of Arkansas in Little Rock, an agency for developmentally disabled which was chosen by the State Knights of Columbus Council.
Council 10208 should be very competitive in the state this year for the most money raised by a large council.

In a recent visit with Father Innocent Okore at St. John's, Ed noticed that the parish grounds could use some work to spruce up its appearance. Father Okore accepted Ed's offer to have the knights from his own council clean up the area.
The knights trimmed the hedges, cut dead branches from trees, raked the lawns, cleaned the gutters, and power washed much of the brick church. Working with the knights were parishioners from St. John's, who also served a lunch at noon.
Knights assisting Ed Miller in this effort were Ray Ambrozich, Tom Auel, John Bodensteiner, Bob Bowman, Dave Johnston, Mike Murphy, Jim Passe, Pat Perilloux, Steve Schramer, Bill Welch, and Dave Witchger.
Grand Knight Dave Johnston, District Deputy Ed Miller, and Membership Director Ed Cudworth will visit St, John the Baptist on Sunday, October 30, to talk to Father Okore and men of the parish about the Knights of Columbus.

Not only did America Needs Fatima successfully reach this year's goal of 7,000 rallies, it far exceeded expectations with 7,515 rallies, topping last year's 5,963. Once again, throngs of Catholic and Christian faithful proudly displayed their Faith as they publicly recited the Rosary for all to see and hear.
Here at Hot Springs Village, on a sunny Saturday afternoon on a vacant lot in front of Walmart on Hwy 7, there were 73 of the faithful who gathered to pray for the nation's leaders as they tackle the myriad dilemmas facing the country and for an end to abortion. They were led in prayer by Father William Elser and in song by Marcia Bresnahan, both of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Displayed at the front of the gathering were two large banners saying "As human efforts fail to solve America's key problems, we turn to God, through His Holy Mother, asking His urgent help."
Plans are already underway for 2012.

There was a total of 13 candidates from three District 10 councils with four from Benton, three from Hot Springs, and six from Hot Springs Village.

The Degree Team consisted of Bill Patterson, Tom Yerina, Gerald Krawczynski, Mike Kerwin, Mike Frantz, and Buddy Dixon with Ray Peters in support.
In addition to the team and the candidates, the local council was well represented with over a dozen members, including District 10 Deputy Ed Miller, to support the Team and welcome the new members.

The annual fall retreat for all Arkansas knights and their spouses was conducted at Subiaco, September 9-11, 2011. It was arranged by State Knights of Columbus Church Director, Roy Anderle.
Retreat master was Deacon Larry Hatch of Mena. Topics centered on "Keeping the Wounds Fresh" and "Living a Life More Like Jesus."
Four couples from Council 10208 were in attendance including (2nd & 3rd rows from top r - l)): Pat and Ed Cudworth; Evelyn and Marshall Garrison; Frances and Ron Boudreaux; and, Marna and Art Morissette.
The next Subiaco Reatreat is February 3-5, 2012.

Dan encouraged the knights to get involved as volunteers, as more than 700 are needed for the festival. Popping popcorn, selling tickets, and transporting dignitaries are just a few of the jobs. This year's festival is scheduled for October 14 - 23. Tickets are $25 per day or $150 for the ten-day event. Winners of two free week-long tickers were Ed Miller and Milt Spaniel.

History of Marian Prayer Program:
Cardinal James Francis Stafford, Major Apostolic Penitentiary Emeritus, and archbishop of Denver emeritus, was principal celebrant at Votive Mass of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Supreme Convention in Denver, Colorado. Knights of Columbus state deputies stood before the altar at the end of Mass holding their jurisdiction’s framed image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, as Msgr. Eduardo Chavez explains the new Marian Prayer Program in which the images would be hosted by local councils worldwide during prayer services.
The Guadalupe images were blessed by Pope Benedict XVI and touched to the tilma of Juan Diego which bears the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. In addition, the frames of the images were sealed with soil from Tepeyac hill in Mexico, where Our Lady’s appearances took place. The new Knights of Columbus Marian Prayer Program will take place throughout the Order and lead into the second international Guadalupe Festival to be held at the Los Angeles Coliseum the weekend before the 2012 Supreme Convention.
