Tom and Monica have been married for 40 years. They have two great kids, two grand kids and another on the way.
Heather is a nurse who lives in Houston, TX with her husband and two children and Jacob is a SSgt. in the US Army and lives with his wife in Tacoma, WA where they are expecting their first child, a little boy in August. As a father, Tom never thought there could be anything tougher than sending his little girl off to college until they said good bye to their son as he deployed to Afghanistan. But that's what they do when they leave the nest. They make their choices which make one proud.
In 2010 Tom retired from Shell Oil after 36 years of service. He and Monica moved to the village in 2013 because of the fishing and hunting opportunities. Tom joined the Village Anglers club to get better acquainted with the local lakes and to learn how to fish them. The club has a few community activities that he participates in.
Early in March Tom participated in Village Pride day. A section of Village roads were assigned to the club to remove trash.
May 14th is Military Appreciation Day. The club invites 25 service people from Fort Robinson in Little Rock to participate in a fishing tournament on Lake Balboa. After the tournament a barbecue lunch is provided by the women's auxiliary. A raffle follows with gift cards. The club along with local anglers will provide boats, operator and gear if needed. Just a little way to say "Thanks for their service".
On July 7th we take blind campers from Camp Yorktown on Lake Ouachita for a fishing experience. Again we provide the boats, operator and gear to those who may never have had the opportunity to catch a fish let alone see a fish. Watching them run their fingers over every part of the fish in their effort to visualize what this is makes you very appreciative for your vision. It's amazing how well their other senses take over.
Tom became a member of the Knights in 1981 and 3rd degree in 1982. In the early 90's he started donating blood and has made a commitment to donate on a regular basis. The little time it takes to donate can make a big difference in someone's life. The Knight's program makes it easy to schedule and donate.
Another activity Tom enjoys is working in the kitchen. He was invited to help out during a Men's Club fish bake back in 2014. He enjoyed the group of guys and became a regular. For the fish bakes he's the "Bean Guy" and for the Sunday Breakfast he's 1/2 of the scramble egg team. It's pretty busy back there. Having a good group of guys to work with makes it fun.
