May 2019 Knight of the Month - Jim Anderson |
Jim moved to HSV in 1995 after retiring from a 45-year career in the Aero- Space business with Gen. Elec., American Airlines and Rolls - Royce.
He came to HSV as a non-practicing Presbyterian, but a regular at Catholic Churches around the country (Pat was a devout Catholic).
They had moved here to enjoy the golf and the other amenities offered in the Village while looking for their permanent retirement location. They quickly found that they were having so much fun and making so many really good friends, they just stopped looking and decided to make the Village their permanent residence.
In 2009, at the gentle urging and encouragement of Monsignor Bernard Malone and Patricia, he became a Catholic at the Easter Confirmation and Mass in Little Rock by Bishop Anthony Taylor.
In 2011, sponsored by Bro. Bob Honzik , he joined the Knights of Columbus and was immediately put to work on the recruiting committee under the direction of Bro. Knight Ed Cudworth .
In 2012 Jim was exemplified as a 2nd and 3rd Degree Knight, and in April of this year, he received Honors of the 4th Degree in exemplification ceremonies at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
Jim is also strong supporter of several of this Council’s Charitable Programs, Including:
CPID - tootsie rolls.
Christmas Gifts for Kids.
Culture of Life - baby bottles.
Seminarian Education Support - taste of faith.
Village Outreach Christmas Baskets.
HSV Community Foundation.

Pictured above with Scott Krantz the First Place Winners of Flight one from Right to Left are Tony Melugin, Ron Graves, Ryan Camras and Rob Camras. |
This is an all-volunteer event with no one being paid any salaries. All Monies raised go to the Charity. The Knights of Columbus have been the hosts of this event since it started 12 years ago at three different venues since its inception; The Belvedere, Lake Degray and Hot Springs Village. The last time it was held in Hot Springs Village was 2016.
This was a landmark year for the Knights of Columbus Councils as it will put the total earned over the last 12 years to more $100,000.00 with over $14,000.00 being raised from this tournament. All the money raised goes toward tuition for many students unable to afford the tuition at little or no costs to their families, allowing them to attend the St. John's Catholic School PreK3 through 8th Grade.
There were 121 golfers starting the shotgun at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18. First flight winners with a 56 included Rob Camras, Ryan Camras, Tony Melugin and Ron Graves. Second flight winners scoring a 65 were Joe Dierks, Joe Patrico, Bob Kleinhenz and Stan Grise. Third flight winners carding 68 included Father George Sanders, Danny Frazier, Lynn Peters and Danny Henry.
Other honors went to Art Morrissette, closest to the line on No. 13; Ryan Camras, closest to the pin on 17; Jerry Bertrand, closest to the pin on No. 6; Roger Thomason, closest to the pin on No. 3; Father George Sanders, closest to the pin on No. 11. A barbecue lunch was served at the Balboa Pavilion with the awards being presented after the lunch.
The Knights of Columbus of HSV has over 320 members all dedicated to the four principles of the order; Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. This fraternal year the council will donate more that 160,000.00 to local charities throughout the State of Arkansas.

The Family of the Year went to Bob and Mary Anne Honzik. This is the second straight year that a couple from Hot Springs Village and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish will be representing the state of Arkansas at the annual Supreme Convention! Walter and Judy Free won in 2018.

And Last but not least Council 10208 was awarded “Large Council of the Year”. This is given to Councils with 100 or more members and it recognizes an organization’s entire body of work for the fraternal year.
