This new web site has been under development since the officers of Council 10208 gave its approval last spring. The technical architect and co-manager of this project is brother knight Mike Miller. Grand Knight John Bodensteiner and his wife, Carolyn, have been gathering and editing the information from a variety of sources, with Carolyn massaging it into the required formats. On an exploratory basis, John will use the home page, rather than the monthly newsletter, as the primary vehicle to keep in touch with the members.
The web site is being developed for a variety of reasons including to:
- enhance communication about current events within the Council and the Assembly
- provide easy access to important information about the Knights of Columbus as an international organization of Catholic men.
- allow the planning of personal calendars around important Council and Assembly functions
- serve as a repository for historical and archival data
- provide consistency and accuracy in policies and procedures
- facilitate access to links of Catholic thought and social commentary
- maintain an updated roster of knights with their contact information
- promote the visibility of the knights within the Sacred Heart parish and the local community
While the focus of this project so far has been on the Council, as soon as the management of the site is adequately refined, information from the Assembly will be added. To the extent possible, data maintenance will be decentralized with individuals taking responsibility for their own areas. Directory information, budget data, and meeting minutes will be password protected.
Although still in the developmental stages, the site is being made available now to the membership to solicit feedback about its design and functionality. Obviously, if there are significant issues which create a negative experience for the users, the aforementioned goals will not be met unless the problems are addresses quickly. A secondary reason for an early release is to seek missing information, especially from knights who have been council members for ten or more years.
Your comments, suggestions, and updates for missing data are encouraged, and they should be forwarded to John Bodensteiner (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 915-0339). He will work with Mike to correct or improve the site as warranted.
